I know it has been a while since I have posted and wanted to give you one of the biggest updates to my health and diet. As you will see previously on my page through previous blog posts that I used to eat meat and dairy products.
I made the transition of becoming vegan over a year ago now. I started off by going vegan for a month with a work colleague to see if we could both do it. Before I get into the progress of the test I will give you a break down of my health complications.
I have always suffered with very painful periods which were very heavy and caused me sickness, not being able to work as I cannot walk and they were very heavy. This simmered down when I went on the pill which I was on for 5 years. However, I still had stomach/womb cramping outside of my periods.
These pains were like a sharp pain in my stomach which was so severe it would cause you to stop what ever you were doing at the time. I would get uncomfortable bloating in my stomach and Vaginal area that wasn't normal either and decided to go to the doctors about it.
They asked me for a stool test and took blood to test me for allergies and chromes diseases they also wanted to rule out IBS ( Irritable Bowel Syndrome). All my tests came back clear so the next step was to get an ultrasound. They examined my womb area and found it to be clear of any cysts or any other abnormalities, basically told me I was fine and to go back to my doctor.
Based off of results from the ultrasound, blood tests and stool test the doctor told me I was fine and there was nothing wrong. I proceeded to tell them that I know my body and know something isn't right. I was told to come back if I had further issues in which I became disheartened and decided to put up with the issues I was having which brings me back to my 1 month test of being vegan.
I tried going vegan for a month to see how It made me feel. I could have gone vegetarian however I did not wish to continue consuming dairy as I felt it was just as bad as eating meat.Instantly I felt more energetic, slept better during the night, felt more in tune with myself and all my stomach implications had completely stopped. For that whole month I had not one pain or discomfort in my stomach. My skin started to break out in spots as all the toxins where leaving my skin.
I didn't realise just how much animal products were in everyday things. I had to be cautious about sugars, the crisps and snacks I ate. A lot of products contain powdered milk or some form of dairy but thanks to websites like vegunary and instagram pages like accidentally vegan I was able to know what I can and cannot eat and am still learning every single day.
FOOD IS FUEL. FOOD IS ENEGRY.YOUR BODY IS A TEMPLE.
I then decided that after the month was up I wanted to continue being vegan. If I could do it for a month without any issues and no health complications then why not make it a permanent thing. It had already impacted my life in so many ways I had never felt more healthier and happier why go back to animal products! I already had cut out diary products and had given up eating pork years ago. It was just my love for chicken , seafood and occasionally lamb that I had to give up, which for the sake of my mind, body and soul and careful research I was ready to do.
I have now been vegan for a year and 4 months or so.The biggest benefit for me was the glow that my skin now has. Its healthier than it has ever been. It is no longer dull and every day it only gets better and better and my energy levels are amazingly high. I am still unsure as to why I had those stomach issues as I did not slowly narrow down my options and just cut everything out all together.Many people become vegan for different reasons down to health or saving the animals and the planet. I would be lying if I said that becoming vegan doesn't eventually become about animals.
As a spiritual person knowing the way which animals are kept, treated and sometimes tortured leading up to the moments in which they are slaughtered has an impact on their bodies and the energy their body contains. Therefore if you eat a chicken that has been severely depressed and has had health complications you are eating contaminated meat. This is just my opinion on things I have researched and what I believe in as being spiritual and just want to put that across as I am not here to force my view on anyone. everyone has their own reasoning for being vegan but we can all live a life we wish without judgement or forcing a change.
Our bodies are temples and essentially are our homes. You wouldn't mistreat your home so why mistreat your body!
TIPS FOR TRANSITIONING TO A VEGAN DIET
1) TRY NEW RECIPE'S
There are hundreds off delicious recipes out there for you to try and so many vegan cook books to inspire you. Remember to stick to whole foods and minimise the processed meals and frozen dinners etc. Pinterest is really good for recipes I go on there for cake recipes or if I am looking to try something new.
2) PROTIENS AND VITAMINS??
A lot of people ask questions about the vitamins that they should be taking. This will be different for everyone as some people have deficiencies in some vitamins more than others. One Vitamin I would suggest you look into more so is your B12 intake as this is important. Foods often to be rich in vitamin B12 include Mushrooms grown in B12-rich soils, Nori, Spirulina, Chlorella, and Nutritional Yeast. Have a look at the NHS information which I have attached if you need further assistance.
The popular question – where do you get your protein? There’s plenty of options. You can get more than enough plant protein from foods like quinoa, tempeh, organic tofu, lentils, black beans, chickpeas, hemp seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, kale, spinach, broccoli, peas, oats, potatoes, sunflower seeds, edamame, etc.
3) SELF- EDUCATE WITH ARTICLES, DOCUMENTARIES AND BOOKS
Do research! Find out why you personally want to incorporate more plant foods. You are likely to stick with this healthier lifestyle if you have a driving force. Be prepared to answer questions from others who may be concerned. Don’t let them manipulate or confuse you. This is your life, your decision! You can find plenty documentaries on Netflix there are many books and resources out there to help you along your journey but the key to this all starts with you. You are in control here and do not let anyone take that from you.
4) GIVE YOUR BODY TIME
The detox process can take several weeks, months, even years. So be kind, patient and nurture your precious body and mind. Eventually you will feel all the benefits from this change in lifestyle. You may feel kinda low at times however, that is your body trying to flush out years of built-up toxins and chemicals from animal products. It’s truly a good thing and something that requires a lot of patience and self love! This is also why we suggest you do this process gradually not all at once. I know I completely stopped everything for a month but I cannot speak for everyone and everyones bodies react differently to different things what may work for me may not work for you.
5) SUPPORT FROM FRIENDS AND FAMILY
If you can get somebody to start the process with you great if not then that's not the end of the world but you really do need the support of your friends and family. When I told my family about wanting to be vegan for a month. they laughed at me and told me I couldn't do it because of how much I love certain foods. Although that wasn't the encouragement I needed it pushed me to prove them wrong. Make sure you have the right people around you to support you through this process.
